At Niconico Cho Kaigi 2017 on April 29th (Sat.) and 30th (Sun.), Kagome Co., Ltd. will be opening their “Cho Napoli-tan Stadium” booth to sell napolitan dishes and introduce their new mascot character, Napoli-tan!
Didn’t quite get all that, you say? Then let’s break it down!
About Kagome Co.
Kagome Co. is a Japanese food company headquartered in Nagoya, Japan. The company was founded by Ichitaro Kanie (1875 – 1971) in 1899 after inheriting an experimental agricultural facility, where he cultivated and grew tomatoes. In 1903, when there was an overabundance of tomatoes, Kanie opened his first tomato sauce production plant, and over time the company quickly expanded into manufacturing tomato ketchup, tomato juice, Worcester sauce, and vegetable juice, all of which proved to be extremely successful. Kagome Co. is also known for being the first company to package and sell ketchup in plastic resin bottles in lieu of the traditional glass varieties.
Today, Kagome Co. enjoys the status of being the largest tomato-based food product company in Japan, whose wide variety of commercials can always be seen on TV throughout its 100+ years of business. Kagome Co. also frequently partners with other companies to create new products like the Asahi Vegesh, and run promotional campaigns like Pikachu Loves Ketchup!
About Napoli-tan
Name: Napoli-tan (ナポリたん)
Country of Origin: Japan
Likes: Meat, fish, and vegetables
Places She’d Like to Visit: Italy
Napoli-tan is the name of Kagome Co.’s new mascot character, designed by Mika Pikazo. Her name is a play on the word for the Japanese ketchup-based pasta dish, napolitan, with the “tan” being changed into the Japanese honorific, “-tan.” She was created to help promote Kagome Co.’s upcoming Napolitan Stadium 2017 contest on May 13th.
On her official campaign site, Napoli-tan is described as being a napolitan fairy, who was “born to fill your heart and your belly with napolitan.” During Niconico Cho Kaigi 2017 at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex, Kagome Co. will be hosting their “Cho Napoli-tan Stadium” booth. They will be promoting and selling some scrumptious napolitan dishes that can’t easily be found anywhere else but in limited quantities, so get there fast (and hungry)! They will also be revealing Napoli-tan’s voice actress, who will be performing her official character theme song.
What is Napoli-tan’s official character song you ask? Well, that’s the thing: it hasn’t been decided yet! This is where you, the fans, come in!
Collaboration with VOCALOID Producers
In order to determine Napoli-tan’s official song, Kagome Co. is collaborating with well-known VOCALOID producers Nayutalien, OSTER project, and KurageP. Each producer created their own song based on Napoli-tan and have uploaded them online for fans to watch and enjoy. As for which one will become her official song, that will be determined by which song gets the most view counts on YouTube and Niconico! On April 29th at 9:59 AM (JST), Kagome Co. will sum up each song’s total view count, and announce the winner at Cho Kaigi 2017!
So from now until April 29th, be sure to support your song of choice by listening to it a lot! See below for all options!
