It was five years ago on September 17th, 2011, at Makuhari Messe when the popular Miku kigurumi, Mikudayo, made her first appearance at Japan’s largest yearly game expo, the Tokyo Game Show. That day, when she “descended” onto our world, is treated as her birthday, and boisterous celebrations by fans are unfolding all over social media.
Among the anniversary festivities are the great number of fan art being uploaded all over the net by artists expressing their love for Mikudayo. One such example is well-known Pixiv artist Asanome/あさのめ‘s much talked-about “Mikudayo Around the World/世界のミクダヨー” series of magnum opus illustrations, in which the birthday girl is shown clad in each nation’s trademark garments, dining on their local delicacies, experiencing their cultural heritage, or visiting their famous landmarks, all around the world. Take a look at what Mikudayo is doing in your home country (of course, she’s eating sushi in Japan).
