Hacka Doll Teases the Hatsune Miku “August 39th Project” This Summer

This August 31st will mark Hatsune Miku’s ninth birthday! Of course, that’s a fact that every VOCALOID fan should know. And likely to coincide with that day is the so-called “August 39th Project,” for which a teaser site has been revealed on the official blog for Hacka Doll, an app that delivers anime and gaming news. It’s likely a collaborative project between Miku and Hacka Doll to celebrate her birthday on August 31st.

With that said, all that has been officially unveiled so far is merely a silhouette image of Hacka Doll and (presumably) Miku together with the words “August 39th Project” across the foreground. Other than that, nothing else is known. As August 31st approaches, the site will likely be updated little by little (in which case, there were likely some people who believed that there would be some kind of hidden message in the site’s source code, but unfortunately, no such message could be found). So I, Kowhey, decided to take the liberty of finding some hints for what the project could be.

First of all, let’s take a closer look at the Miku-like silhouette. As one can see, Miku’s characteristic features and clothing accessories are clearly visible, so one can safely and confidently assume that this is indeed Miku. However, take another look at the above image from the Crypton press release. Notice something curious? The way that her trademark twintails bend is much like that of the Hatsune Miku V4X design. Furthermore, August 31st is not only Miku’s ninth anniversary but also the release day for the Hatsune Miku V4X software. Could there be a connection?

And to point out another common feature, I’ll present these two images together. On the left is a teaser image from Hacka Doll’s early days; on the right is the main visual banner for “Hatsune Miku: Magical Mirai 2016.” The two share a lot of similarities in art style, especially in the characters’ faces, don’t they? Well, that’s because they were drawn by the same artist, LENA from Seoul, South Korea! In other words, the above silhouette could have been drawn by an artist who has done illustrations for both Hacka Doll AND Hatsune Miku before! It would certainly make sense to appoint such an illustrator for such a teaser image, meaning that it could very well have been drawn by none other than LENA!

At any rate, though official info is scarce so far, we can still surmise that the above silhouette features Hatsune Miku V4X, and that it could have been drawn by LENA. Stay tuned for the follow-up article from Hacka Doll!
